Qlik developer Anna is passionate about developing, visualizing data  and helping customers gain a better understanding of their own data. The more understanding the customer’s business gets, the easier it will be to understand the data. When she’s not hanging out at the office in Malmö, she prefers to be at the gym or in a Crossfit box.

Anna Gustafsson is a Qlik developer at our office in Malmö and works in the area of ​​Business Intelligence (BI) with the BI tools Qlikview and Qlik Sense. Anna works with everything from modeling different solutions (based on data warehouses) to developing and maintaining Qlik applications. Right now she is working on a project to help the customer to get better insights into their data. Which means creating and developing a solution in Qlik, from transforming data to analyzing and visualizing the data to various reports and applications.

– The advantage of using a BI tool is that it makes it possible to adapt and transform the data based on the customer’s specific needs. Once a Qlik application is created, all new data that comes in is updated automatically. Which saves both time and money for the customer because they do not have to manually update the new data in their Excel sheets every day or week, says Anna.

She goes on to talk about the daily tasks that also consist of defining requirements, new development, management and support of existing Qlik applications.

– It is fun to work with BI because the customer can customize and filter their applications, i.e. visualize their data based on their needs. It gives the customer a valuable insight into their business, which in turn creates a better basis for decision-making. It’s extra fun when the customer gets an “aha” experience.

She thinks that the biggest challenges in her job are getting acquainted with projects that have been ongoing for a long time.

– Sometimes it can be difficult to understand the customer’s business and how older Qlik applications are structured. Which in turn makes it more difficult for me to develop both the data model and the visualization according to the customer’s new needs. The more understanding I get for the customer’s business, the easier it will be for me to both develop and adapt the application to the customer’s wishes. Everything belongs together, says Anna.

In her work, Anna has many fun and stimulating tasks.

– I like to think outside the box, create and come up with new solutions. The interest in details and understanding how everything belongs together is important and what drives me every day in my job. In addition, I work with a fantastic team and constantly learn new things from both my team and the customer, says Anna.

She continues.

– The best thing about working at Softhouse is that I am challenged daily in my tasks and to spend time with wonderful, helpful and competent colleagues. I like the culture at Softhouse, it is open and welcoming. No matter what office I am in, I feel at home and part of the Softhouse family.

From computer to nature

Anna has always been a person with a great interest in data, analysis and processes. Therefore, she started studying Logistics Service Management at Lund University and then continued with a master’s degree in Information Systems at Linnaeus University.

During her studies, Anna became very interested in learning more about BI and Qlik. She gained interest in Softhouse and chose to contact us. Anna wanted to get a summer job or an internship, but unfortunately there were no openings at the moment. But she got in touch with the BI team in Karlskrona and did a “test assignment” in Qlik Sense during the summer, which led to the opportunity to become a member of the BI team after her studies, which she enjoys very much. Today she is sitting in our office in Malmö but belongs to the Karlskrona team. When Anna is not helping our customers, she likes to train and be active.

– I spend most of my time in a gym, in a crossfit box or out in nature with my family, friends and my parents dog. But I’m not difficult to flirt with for a round of golf or a padel match, says Anna.

She continues.

– My secret talent must be that it’s easy for me to learn new sports, and as i said. I love to try a new activity or challenge.
