In this dynamic edition of CTO Insights, we spotlight Ole Lidegran, the charismatic and energetic leader currently steering the product and development teams at Skolon. With a background deeply rooted in education and technology, Ole brings a unique blend of passion, innovation, and leadership to his role. His journey from a school-centric upbringing to a key player in educational technology outlines a career marked by enthusiasm and a forward-thinking approach to digital learning environments.

A path shaped by education and curiosity

Ole’s story begins in the classrooms where both his parents taught, sparking his lifelong fascination for education and leadership.

– Growing up in an educational environment, the school world was a natural comfort zone for me, Ole recalls.

His parents’ contrasting teaching styles—a blend of strict organization and captivating storytelling—molded his early understanding of effective leadership.

During his youth, the advent of the Internet captured Ole’s imagination, leading him to start a web development business while still in high school. His knack for technology and sales burgeoned through side jobs ranging from wedding singer and  photography to tech retail, setting the stage for his diverse career path.

Bridging technology and education

Ole’s professional journey is a testament to his adaptive strategy in merging educational needs with technological solutions. After teaching Java programming and working on various tech projects, he transitioned into roles that increasingly focused on IT strategy and digital learning environments.

– I was always driven to make education accessible and engaging through technology. It was about leading people to a common goal and making them feel part of both successes and challenges, he explains.

As the current Chief Product and Development Officer at Skolon, Ole emphasizes strategic planning and hands-on leadership. He describes his typical day as non-existent, with varied tasks from strategic meetings to testing new software prototypes.

– What excites me the most is the ability to shape our products to better serve educators and students. It’s about multiplying our impact through technology, he shares.

A people-centric leadership style

Ole’s leadership style is distinctly people-centric and enthusiastic, qualities that permeate his strategic vision.

– I believe in empowering my team, encouraging open communication, and maintaining a high energy level to motivate everyone towards our common goals, he says.

His approach to balancing strategic and operational tasks is fluid, driven by a prioritization of impactful innovations and ongoing development.

In discussing technology trends, Ole sees artificial intelligence and customized learning tools as transformative forces in education.

– AI can dramatically shift how educational content is delivered. We’re exploring how these technologies can enhance, not replace, the human element in teaching, he notes.

Overcoming challenges and embracing opportunities

One of the primary challenges Ole faces is managing the rapid pace of technological change within the structured environment of educational institutions.

– Aligning our fast-moving tech initiatives with the systematic needs of schools requires constant adaptation and clear communication, he acknowledges.

Looking ahead, Ole is optimistic about Skolon’s role in the evolving landscape of educational technology.

– In five years, I see us at the forefront of tech maturity, continuously innovating while staying true to our mission of enhancing educational experiences.

Say YES!

Reflecting on his journey, Ole offers a piece of advice for those embarking on similar paths:

– Say yes to opportunities, even if they scare you. Embrace challenges, and remember, what you don’t know today, you can learn tomorrow. Always align your work with your values.

Ole Lidegran’s journey is a vibrant narrative of how passion for education and technology can intersect to create meaningful change. His leadership at Skolon not only exemplifies innovation but also highlights the profound impact of nurturing a positive and proactive workplace culture
