In June 2025, you celebrate 17 years at Softhouse! What have we done right to keep you this long?

The friendly and amazing colleagues, the sense of community, openness, and the supportive environment have made me feel so comfortable for so long. Many of my colleagues have also become my friends. We’ve been great at recruiting humble and wonderful people here in Karlskrona.

Looking back to when you started in 2008—how has Softhouse evolved since then?

We’ve grown in numbers and opened more offices both in Sweden and abroad. When I started, we were about 25 employees in Karlskrona. The kitchen and dining area were in the small room that’s now our game room, and we only occupied the ground floor. We had desktop computers, so taking work home wasn’t an option. During power outages, we couldn’t work, so we’d just socialize and have coffee instead. And my first work phone? It wasn’t a smartphone 🙂

Enough about Softhouse’s development—how has your personal growth journey been?

I started as a backend developer in Java. Looking back at that time right after university, I realize how much has changed in software development and how much I’ve learned along the way. Most of my learning has come from work experience and collaborating with skilled colleagues.

After a few years as a backend developer, I discovered that I enjoyed frontend more. In 2014, I started an assignment focusing entirely on frontend, and I immediately felt it was the right fit—and I still do.

You’ve surely accumulated many memories over the years—what’s your best Softhouse memory?

So many fun things have happened, it’s hard to choose… but one Softhouse Day at Copenhagen’s Tivoli was really fun. We had a nice dinner, and a colleague got beer spilled on them when the waitress fumbled. Everyone got tickets to ride the attractions. It was springtime, and the tulips were blooming in the park.

Another conference trip was to Nice. We arrived late in the evening and were to have a buffet. The staff wasn’t quite prepared for a large group of beer-thirsty people who had traveled all afternoon, so the small 10-liter beer keg the hotel had set out was quickly emptied. Over the weekend, we visited Monaco, which was really cool to see.

Another time, we went wine tasting in Budapest, but it lasted so long, and the winemaker talked so much that the interpreter eventually gave up and just summarized everything with: “It’s a wine.”

Magnus Hölén, Embedded Developer at Softhouse in Malmö

This year, you celebrate 20 years at Softhouse! What have we done right to keep you this long?

Softhouse has always been a company that cares about its employees. Over the years, it’s been an environment where knowledge and new concepts are shared, and I’ve always had the opportunity to develop and learn more. I’ve worked on many different assignments with various clients, so it’s not like I’ve been doing the same thing over and over again.

Looking back to when you started in 2005—how has Softhouse evolved since then?

Back then, we were a small consultancy with one major client and two offices (in Malmö and Karlskrona), and since then, we’ve expanded with more offices across the country and in Sarajevo.

We were known for our technical expertise, which was evident, for example, when there were cutbacks in client assignments, but all our consultants were retained. We also had our own products based on facial recognition, which was very advanced at the time.

We’ve always been technically strong and have been the agile engine of the entire Skåne region. I’d guess that the majority of Skåne’s Scrum Masters have been trained through Softhouse. I remember once meeting an old classmate who worked for a competitor at the time. He lamented that wherever their company went to talk about agile, our posters were already on the client’s walls.

Enough about Softhouse’s development—how has your personal growth journey been?

When I started at Softhouse 20 years ago, I was fresh out of university and worked as an embedded programmer in mobile phones. Over the years, I’ve worked with very skilled people who shared their knowledge, allowing me to grow. Today, I still focus on embedded programming but have also tried many other technologies, including web, AI, and mobile apps.

You’ve surely accumulated many memories over the years—what’s your best Softhouse memory?

One year, we were in Budapest for a conference trip, and one evening we had a seven-course dinner with wine tasting. We sat for several hours, and when the dinner was over, we stayed and talked. Suddenly, a colleague returned from the bar.

“We can’t buy more; they’ve closed the bar!”

“Why?” we wondered.

“Well, first they said they’d closed the card terminals for the evening, so they couldn’t take payment. Then I said I could pay in cash. They replied, ‘Please, we just want to go home!'”

When we looked at the clock, it was past midnight—we’d had such a good time that we hadn’t noticed.

Jens Rydenheim, Full-stack Developer at Softhouse in Karlskrona

In November 2025, you celebrate 15 years at Softhouse! What have we done right to keep you this long?

There’s always been a familial feeling in the company, where employees are the focus and are listened to. Additionally, the company has always done well, which has made me feel secure. And the conference trips have been a big plus!

Looking back to when you started in 2010—how has Softhouse evolved since then?

It’s been an exciting development since then. We started as a fairly small company with just a couple of offices, and today we’ve expanded with more offices around Sweden and also established a presence in Sarajevo. This geographical expansion has not only strengthened our market position but also enabled more collaborations, both within the group and with clients.

Despite the growth, we’ve always maintained the familial feeling in the company and the personal service that is the core of what makes us Softhouse, and I believe that’s key to our continued success.

Enough about Softhouse’s development—how has your personal growth journey been?

I’ve developed a lot, both technically and personally. I’ve had the chance to work on many different assignments with various technologies. I started as a backend developer and got to work on several large systems. Over time, I became more interested in frontend and working closer to the client. I got the opportunity to try frontend assignments and have since developed a lot in that area as well. Now I’m working full-stack and really enjoy both working closer to the client and being involved in all parts of a system.

You’ve surely accumulated many memories over the years—what’s your best Softhouse memory?

I have many great memories, but one of the best is from a conference trip to Scotland. We had the chance to try mountain biking together. We rented bikes and explored an area with many winding trails. The landscape offered green valleys, dense forests, and varying hills that both challenged us and allowed us to enjoy nature.
