Nearshore - när du vill skala upp men behöver känna dig trygg i varje steg

Scaling up without losing confidence along the way

It’s something we see in many organizations right now. The pace is increasing. More initiatives need to move forward. Expectations around what should be delivered — and how quickly — are changing. And in the middle of all this, you’re responsible for making it work. Not just in the short term, but over time. That’s often when the idea of scaling with nearshore comes up. And almost just as often, the next question follows right after:

How does this actually work in practice?

What rarely gets the spotlight but always shapes the decision

We’ve had many of these conversations over the years. And while the needs may differ, they often lead to the same types of questions.

  • Who owns the contract?
  • Where is the data handled?
  • What legal framework applies?
  • What does control really look like?
  • These are not always the first questions asked. But they are always there. And they matter.

Because this isn’t just about adding a team. It’s about knowing it holds up all the way.

A model built for real-world delivery

For us, it’s been important not to treat nearshore as something that sits “on the side.” That’s why Softhouse in Sweden is always your contractual partner. All agreements are signed with us, and we operate under the General Terms and Conditions for IT Services 2014 from IT & Telecom Companies (Almega). This means you have a legal structure that is both established and familiar. Softhouse in Sweden also manages all financial flows. Invoicing is done in SEK, and the relationship is the same as in any other engagement. It might sound like details. But in practice, it’s often these details that determine whether a setup feels secure or not.

And what about the data?

That question almost always comes up. And rightly so. In many nearshore setups, this is where things start to become unclear. For us, the starting point is simple. We design solutions where data handling, storage, and access are governed by the same requirements as if the entire team were based in Sweden. It’s about clear structures, the right access levels, and a conscious approach to how information moves within the organization. This is not something added afterwards. It’s part of how we build from the start.

When collaboration actually feels close

Another topic that often comes up is communication.

  • Will it flow?
  • Will we understand each other?
  • Will there be more friction than value?

These are questions we take seriously.

That’s why we work in teams where both Swedish and English are used naturally, depending on what suits the client best. For some, Swedish is essential. For others, English works just as well. Often, it’s a mix. But the language itself isn’t what matters most. What matters is that communication flows without effort. That questions can be raised directly. That there is mutual understanding. That collaboration feels… simple. When that’s in place, you stop thinking about the fact that the team is distributed.

It’s the whole that makes the difference

Nearshore can be described in many ways.

As a way to scale.

As a way to access talent.

As an alternative to hiring.

But in practice, it’s something more. It’s about how you build your delivery capability. How you combine flexibility with stability. How you create pace without losing control. And perhaps most importantly, how you do it in a way that feels secure all the way.

If you’re in that space right now

You’re not alone. We meet many organizations that are exactly there, wanting to move forward, but wanting to do it the right way. If you’re curious about how we work with nearshore and how we build teams that function both practically, legally, and culturally, you can read more here.
